Because it was a Republican year, and any Republican would have won unless we ran a generational candidate (FDR, Obama, etc.). Cruz was smarter and a better debater. He would have won bigger, and wouldn’t have wrote the insane Tweets. He would have won re-election and we’d be suffering even more right now. At least with Trump, his own mouth and pen cost him the election.
