(5,764 posts)1. One person expressing their opinion to others on a discussion forum is not the equivalent of one person telling another group of people they AREN'T ALLOWED to have an opinion. I'm not telling you that any more than you're telling me that by disagreeing with ME in that response. Understand?
2. YES, make us look desperate. Just like the idiots yelling about the unemployment numbers being cooked make the other side look desperate. And no, I'm not saying the two claims are equivalent, theirs is clearly more crazy, but that's beside the point. The optics are the optics. In the view of the majority of the country people yelling and screaming about Romney cheating in the debate when they have a ridiculously easy response you can't knock down sounds like nothing except desperation. And it inflates the impression in their minds that there is a reason for you to BE desperate.
3. Yes, a non starter. It's already dead. The Romney campaign didn't have to "come out and defend themselves" and this hasn't harmed them. A single "It was a hanky" response to a question is not being on the defensive and that effectively killed the entire story. If you think otherwise you're being delusional.
4. Until you get the video you need to determine the truth??? What are you going to do, travel back in time and place additional cameras with high resolution imagery of the surface of Rowney's podium? What the hell are you expecting is suddenly going to show up? The footage they're withholding from the invisible cameraman who was standing over Romney's shoulder through the whole debate?
Bottom line, I'm not a fan of the "as long as it's something our side likes we support it beyond all reason" line of thinking. I am firmly in the "police your own side" camp. And on this issue some people on our side needed pushback, so I'm pushing. Don't like it? Let me slip into your shoes for a second....
"You can't tell me what I'm allowed to have an opinion on!" (See how annoying that is?)
