In reply to the discussion: Is Anything Going To Done About Ginni Thomas [View all]Chemisse
(31,402 posts)59. I disagree that Clarence Thomas should resign or be impeached over this.
Nobody should be held responsible for the misdeeds of their spouse.
It's important to not set a precedent that we would be uncomfortable applying to Dems. For example, what if we found out 6 months from now that Jill Biden was involved with Qanon (yes, ridiculous, but just to make a point)? Would we demand the resignation or impeachment of Pres. Joe Biden?
Not automatically. Only if he knew about her committing a crime and kept quiet or was in any way involved himself with a terrorist organization. The same should hold true for people we find to be reprehensible, like Clarence Thomas. If there is any evidence that he is involved or that he kept quiet about her doing something illegal, then yes. Otherwise, no.
