20. The split this has created in the party makes that impossible

...and Mitch knows it already. If the party holds together there's no way the Trumpists go along with keeping him Senate leader, and if the party splits he might remain leader of his faction but it won't be the majority. Either way the glory days are behind him and he is old and his health is not looking good. I think he either resigns immediately after voting for impeachment as a final fuck you to the great T, or he waits a few months for cover then decides to "spend more time with his family."
