I grew up in rural North Dakota and the most common card game was Whist. Then when I met my first husband (relatively brief marriage in college), we played endless hours of Cribbage.
My second husband and I used to play hours and hours of Canasta against his mom and her best friend. In the beginning, they always won. The more we played, the better we got at figuring out each other's hands by the cards we were playing. Then WE started being the champions. My MIL and her friend were not gracious losers. They actually started accusing us of cheating by making up signals, but of course we weren't.
Then my husband's sister introduced us to Pinochle, and I just thought it was the best game ever.
That husband died at just 38 years old. I got married again, but the last husband was an absolute dud when it came to cards and board games. Then he became a MAGAt, after being a lifelong Democrat, and then he cheated, and now he's gone, thankfully.
I can't envision ever getting into any kind of romantic relationship again, but I sure wouldn't mind having somebody to play cards and board games with. Maybe after we get out of this pandemic, I'll put forth some effort to find people with that interest.
