Even if the Trump administration hadn't unrolled so many steps forward, the enduring legacy of 400,000 pandemic deaths, wasted because of pointless squabbling and nontroversies over where the virus originated or whether to wear masks is just so deflating. Millions of families who will miss Dad or Auntie or Sonny or Cuz at get-togethers forever. When the full awful story clatters out of the closet like so many skeletons, I hope there's enough juice left in the American people to get righteously outraged at Trump and his misadministration.
