he will point to things like the higher cap on earnings for benefits and say I fought to cut that down so that YOU would get it but not people who don't need it, etc etc.

He is a clear target now. The Dem Senator in one of the most republican states in the country. He's trying to burnish his centrist credentials now to weather that storm. I'm not defending him, just understanding him.

Ultimately, he was always going to be on-board with the majority of it, but he apparently feels he needs to make a show that he's not just going along with everything.
