In reply to the discussion: As a Biden doubter [View all]Dustlawyer
(10,495 posts)Biden was the perfect person for right now. While Biden is too conservative for what I think this country needs to do to attack our root problems of campaign finance reform and the media propaganda, for this moment it is more important to give the country a President that they know is steady, experienced, and centrist. The Republicans get no where in painting him as a radical which is their main attack on our Party. Biden is calm and measured and Americans know him well. He knows the leadership of both Parties very well. He knows how Congress and government really operates and can use his long term relationships to our advantage.
The times call for a President that knows how things are supposed to run. As important is that the rest of the world knows him and will feel reassured that Americas insanity was temporary and that our relationship with our allies can be counted on again.
Lastly, I am not sure we would have won if we had elected someone else that may have liked more for their more liberal policies. I want to be clear, we need to make some big changes in this country to fix some serious institutional problems that are exacerbating the wealth gap, threatening our social safety net, and ruining our environment. Biden will advance these issues as well, just not as far and fast as I would like. A measured approach right now makes more sense and Biden will do that. I can be patient as I believe that is what we need at this moment in time.
