I agree with all the complicity stuff you mention, but...
I don't think T+p thought he would lose.
In fact, with voter suppression, Rs as governors or SoS in critical states and a suspected low turnout from COVID, they thought the fix was in. For them!
The tantrums & seditionist attempts at overturning the election were a reaction based in disbelief that he lost, because they believed that the "lose the popular vote, win the EC" was cinched.
In T-$@p's tiny mind, he may actually have believed that since they rigged it, the only he way he lost was the other side cheated better than him.
Now, that doesn't begin to excuse the crimes then committed to overthrow democracy. But, I don't think they ever thought they'd get beat. Especially by nearly 90 EC votes.
