just how patiently and carefully the KGB and then the FSB cultivated Trump over the years. He was most likely one of MANY assets cultivated by the Soviets and then the Russians, but he was definitely one of their biggest successes.

Trump was gullible and had an insatiable need for praise, recognition and..... MONEY to bail out his many failing businesses. The Russians were always there to stroke his ego and line his pockets through their money-laundering operations.

I don't think Trump realized just how compromised he was until it was revealed that Russia had interfered in the 2016 elections and by then he knew he had to keep Putin happy or risk ruination. I don't think he thought through the risks associated with his entanglements with Russia when he declared his candidacy because Donald is not a long-term thinker. He is a reactionary who has been told and been led to believe all his life that he can get away with anything.

A side story in American Kompromat involves the ties between Opus Dei and the Federalist Society, as well as their involvement in the case of FBI agent turned Russian spy, Robert Hanssen. Unger theorizes that Opus Dei has always been supportive of authoritarian leaders who they can use to push for enactment of their religious goals.
