(2,636 posts)It was most definitely a speeding accident.
Rolling hills in that area, hence the city of Rolling Hills. Hawthorn Blvd is fairly straight, with some giant S turns. @ 7;00 am, he's facing little to no traffic, and it's very easy to get up over 50 mph there.
He didn't hit a tree. The center berm goes appears and disappears through there to allow side street traffic to come and go. He likely missed the turn (phone?) or veered because someone was entering Hawthorn by turning right. Tiger's car hit the median. At speed, the car would veer left. He likely steered left to get off the median after he blew through the development's signage and caused the car to spin, then roll because of high speed.
As far as I know, he was lucid and not under the influence.
I'm not sure how busy that road is at 7:00 in pre-covid days. By 7:30, I'd guess it was full of kids going to school and parents going to work.
He's lucky to have survived. He was belted in and the car's crumple zones did just what they were designed to do. Reports are every single airbag went off. He'll come back, like Hogan before him. But his son will surpass Jack, he won't.
As a man, meh. As a player, he was magnificent.
