2. Organize to lobby your state as well

Many states have a minimum wage law above the federal one, while a few states have no law at all. My state already passed a $15 minimum wage law, which is being phased in (I think it’s currently up to $12). The city I live in is going even faster:



Effective July 1, 2021:

The minimum wage for large employers (21 employees or more)will increase to $15.00 per hour. The minimum wage for tipped workers of large employers will be $9.00 per hour.
The minimum wage for small employers (4-20 employees) will increase to $14.00 per hour. The minimum wage for tipped workers of small employers will be $8.40 per hour.
The minimum wage for youth workers will increase to $11.00 per hour. The minimum wage for tipped youth workers will be $6.60 per hour.


If other states and cities join in in enacting laws, it might help to make other states and cities to gear up for increases to compete.
