(12,226 posts)Zinc is also helpful. The reason I'm so big on Vitamin D (should be D3) is a statistic I heard some months ago. Of all the people studied - and I have no idea of the size or scientific rigour of the study - showed that, of all the people hospitalized for COVID, 70% were Vitamin D-deficient, and only 4% had adequate Vitamin D levels.
While not conclusive, it very strongly suggests that a few bucks spent on a bottle of pills isn't the worst money you'll ever spend.
I take 2000mg a day. 1000mg is about the low end of what was recommended, and 4000 is better. The doctor talking about the study takes 5000mg, but that is also partly convenience. There are apparently single pills that contain that amount, although I've not been able to find them.
