In politics, like comedy ... [View all]

… t-t-t-timing is everything.

And the timing of the accusations against Andrew Cuomo should not be ignored.

Trump wants revenge against the man who came across as ‘in charge’ at the same time Trump was being ridiculed for his mishandling of the response to COVID-19.

Trump is under investigation in New York State – and any insinuation that NYS is under the control of Democrats of ‘questionable character’ feeds into the GOP narrative that corruption is rife within the state’s Democratic office-holders – and thus any accusations against Trump are the work product of biased anti-Trumpers.

A he said/she said narrative in the Cuomo case means pitting Democrat against Democrat – those who believe him v those who don’t. Divide and conquer – oldest political strategy in the book.

An investigation into Cuomo’s alleged wrongdoing will suck a lot of media oxygen out of the 24-hour-newscycle air, which means less media attention focused on more important fare – like the investigations into January 6th, and the complicity of certain Republicans in the events of that day.

It is what it is. And it stinks.
