If they'd skipped the thread, then someone asking the OP as a genuine question wouldn't have got the info.

Now, you think it's amazing that someone took the OP at face value. Perhaps some people don't spend so much time worrying about the level of news coverage as you do, so they don't interpret a question in a non-literal way.
