(38,027 posts)...but then I recall all the times I forgave him for the sake of my parents, and now that they're both gone, I just have to live with it.
I recently got a Christmas card from him, from his third wife I'm guessing, the one who was 19 when he married her, almost 30 years younger than him, with whom he was having an affair on his second wife.
He used to give me all these lectures on the sanctity of marriage, this would good long dollops of Christian theology.
He objected to my father remarrying after my mother died. My father stayed by my mother through all of her horrible death, and would have gladly sacrificed himself for her if he could have done so.
I've been married to the same woman for 35 years, am deeply in love with her, and would never dream of having an affair.
Losing a brother who is still alive, but functionally dead, well, it happens.
Sometimes forgiveness is impossible.
