(45,274 posts)Be kind to new posters, don't assume ill-will where low information is more likely to blame, and assume that most newcomers arrive with the typical packet of M$M crapola--"Both sides do it," "Ryan is a wonk," "Our biggest problem is the deficit," etc., and need to be gently led out of their cocoons of misinformation & misconception.
Personally, in almost all cases, I think it's important to distinguish between the poster and the misinformation. It's possible to correct the latter without emotionally mangling the former.
We've seen a lot of people come on board rather naive and evolve sophistication over time. That is a wonderful process, and one we need to promote. It doesn't happen if you drive people off in their first 50 posts, some of which are very likely to be ill-informed.
