(8,300 posts)I've lived on the island almost 10 years & I've only met 1 person who lives here who was born in FL. All my neighbors are from the "frozen north" as we call it, states where you have to shovel snow in the winter. Right now if I drive through my neighborhood I'll see 1 Trump flag, 5-6 Ohio State flags, & a couple Michigan State flags. When I moved & was first meeting a whole bunch of my new neighbors (at a block party/BBQ they organize every year) people kept asking "Don't you love it here?" I must have heard that question a dozen times. It surprised me because never before had I encountered folks who were so happy to live where they lived, it was the complete opposite of the "stuck in a dead-end town with nothing to do" feeling that permeated the place where I grew up.
I say all that to make the point that as you said, parts of Florida are a very diverse mix of people from all over the US & from all over the world. We're not all gun-humping Trump-loving rednecks.
