(5,249 posts)But the sad truth in this situation, the Officer in question didn't have time. Yes, they are trained to deal with violence, people with emotional issues (we hope), and crimes of various types. But what we don't have control over is TIME. There are only so many seconds that a person in that situation has to time to react to. A knife cuts through the skin/muscle like a hot knife through butter - and he didn't have the luxury of waiting.
My heart bleeds for the family, and I wonder - what did the various people at that home do to defuse the situation, if any? The girl was probably hysterical but the Officer didn't have the luxury of time to discover and hope for her rational self to kick in. In some ways, he is a victim too.
But, I do share some of your thoughts and appreciate your concerns.
I know from experience, that Time does not slow down.
