And if so, then yeah, there's a higher risk to vaccines (or maybe it's just that they won't work as well?) because it's an auto-immune disease, and medicines you take for it lower your immune response (Humira is an example).

My boss has that though and he's going to take (or has taken) the J&J, after considerable research and consultation.

From what he told me just needs to stop taking some of his meds around that time. It's not really dangerous to take some time off of them, they're actually pretty hard on your system and you're supposed take occasional breaks anyway.
