(51,635 posts)It is a contradictory behavior that we need to find a better way to explain.
The problem is, that people like Tim Scott know that we're right, but repeat the Republican mantra because it's better for their pocket. And that requires special attention from us, but we have to find a better way to communicate, than resurrecting the Uncle Tom image.
I don't have an answer, but I do have a testimonial on how I won a huge concession from a black latino friend of mine who was viciously hard right. I steadily worked on him, using what I knew about him when we were growing up, to show what a poser he was. He repeated the usual right-wing holier-than-though bullshit, and I kept coming back with examples of when he was younger, when he lived in an opposite manner.
And, I really got him, when he tried to push aside the issues that are important to the woke culture, much like Tim Scott does. He posted a meme from a poster who was apparently black: "Liberals say black people should feel oppressed, and white people should feel guilty. I say, we all should feel proud to be Americans."
That was it for me. I reminded my friend that he lived abroad for many of the years he worked, where it was easy to dismiss what was going on in the U.S. But, there was one job that he held in the USA, that gave him everything he needed to know that the woke culture was right. I reminded him of a conversation we had. I said working for OSHA gave him insight, which obviously had an impact on him, because he told me that I should be careful.
He didn't disagree with me. On the contrary, he "liked" my comment.
So I deduce that he's a hard-rightwinger for personal preservation reasons. That's what we're fighting against. We have minorities who chose to look the other way because it's better for them, personally.
