AA conservatives and especially for the few who openly break with the majority to identify with and further the conservative party. Beyond doubt for some it is strongly ideological, and of course some disagree with and despise Democrats and liberalism just as much as any other conservatives. But there are lots of other possible reasons, and of course skunks and whackjobs come in all races, but whatever, it's not the easy path.
