We're still playing catch up. But there are girls and women who wrestle, girls play boys baseball and soccer, and there's ever a female place kicker on one of the D1 college teams.
Girls have never had a fair shake with athletics--opportunity, or having to fight stereotypes. Hell, the town I grew up in holds a rival high school spring and fall golf tournament, ten year on now, and still won't open it up to the girls.
I play golf. I'm not great, but play to a 12. A lot of men, even at my home course, do not like to play with me. They'd let me join them, but anymore, they're happiest to let me play through.
Not all men, but many men want zero women in sports at all (except ice skating and gymnastics and tennis and girl sports like v-ball and field hockey) or they'll dismiss all women in sports as lesbian. The same assholes pretending to "Protect women's sports" rail against Title IX taking money form men's sports.
It's always ben a man's world, but it's expanding over my lifetime. Just as Obama's presidency brought the racists out of the woodwork, Harris the female VP one heartbeat away has ratcheted up the misogyny, too. Although the GOP had been storing that up for Hilary since the end of Bill's term.
I'm curious if the studies account for socialization that encourages boys to run and jump and climb and play rough while girls are encouraged not to.
