(15,100 posts)... she finally got her first dose last week.
What did it take? Both her 37-year old daughter and her son-in-law ending up inside an ICU from Covid infections, that's what!
The most recent update is that the prognosis for BOTH of them is very bad, and she should be mentally prepared for them to die. The woman's daughter is connected to an ECMO machine to basically breathe for her (pumping her blood through the device to oxygenate it while removing the CO2) since a ventilator wasn't helping her.
So now she's an elderly woman taking care of her three young grandchildren. They also recently tested positive, and only then did she hurriedly get an injection. Then they've all been quarantined in her home. Maybe the shot actually helped her because she still feels healthy after about a week of exposure to the grandkids.
Anyway, I suspect that many vaccine-hesitant haven't experienced the effects of infection themselves!
