(23,761 posts)At the start of the pandemic, they were all "herd immunity will take care of this!" Now, that herd immunity is in reach, they're not interested.
I think there is some good news though when it comes to herd immunity, which is that it might not require 70-80% of the population to get vaccinated to achieve. The CDC recently estimated that maybe a third of all Americans were infected with Covid in the past year. Those people (the ones who survived, at least) will have some measure of protection against the virus.
The protection won't be as good as getting vaccinated, and there will obviously be overlap between people who were infected and people who were vaccinated. But if a lot of the people who refuse to get vaccinated were already infected, that does help us get closer to herd immunity.
