The CDC does not know how many of its employees are vaccinated because it does not, and cannot, keep such statistics. Vaccination status is private medical information that employers do have a right to know unless it is necessary for the job, i.e. a nurse at a covid ward, etc.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), a federal law, protects such patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge.

Fauci was not speaking for the CDC, he was just saying what he personally thinks is the number. When Burr asked Fauci what percentage of emplyees at his agency were vaccinated, Fauci said he wasn't sure but that he "thinks" it's "a little over 50%" or "probably around 60%." He was guessing. Marks said he "didn't know" for his agency, but went along with Fauci's guess as a possible number for his agency. Walensky smartly did not take Burr's bait and correctly pointed out they don't keep such statistics, and that the federal government does not require that their employees disclose such information to them.
