(18,530 posts)I believe that there may be something to fatalism with regards to the fact that, in the future, there will have been a single path through space-time each of us will have traveled to our end. While we live, that end is likely still true; we will reach it through the choices we make along the way.
What I do know is that depression, anger, stress and other "negative" emotions mirror themselves in our physical health and can kill us (heart attacks, for example). There is some evidence that these can even cause cancer. There is also some evidence that happiness and laughter can boost our immune systems and, if not cure disease, prevent the negative mental states that make things worse. I don't believe happiness alone extends life any more than I believe jogging does, especially if you get killed in a car wreck, say. But, it can prevent the depression that may have caused you heart disease that would have killed you sooner, barring any other factors.
Or, I'm just full of shit.
