4. The fundies I knew in the 60s were a little different.

I actually attended a Bible Church for five years, in my teens, about 1961-1966. My grade school principal brought my brother and me there. In some ways, they were the same, very nervous and rigid and uptight about what they allowed themselves to say and do and believe. They were more hostile to the Roman Catholic Church back then; they were sure that the Pope would be ordering Jack Kennedy what to do about everything. But I do not remember the vociferous condemnation of people who have their sex surgically changed. I remember somebody once brought up Christine Jorgensen, who became a woman. Everybody seemed more gently puzzled by her than anything. Mostly, they seemed profoundly ignorant of science, geography, psychology, philosophy, and history.
