In reply to the discussion: On 1/6, Pence Refused To Get In Secret Service Car Because He Didn't Trust Them [View all]Bucky
(55,334 posts)18. GOP Grand Old Projection
Of course Pence suspected the Secret Service had been converted to a secret praetorian guard loyal to Trump over the US Constitution. That has always been the right wing Dominionist dream.
Pence's dilemma was not that he was loyal to democracy and a threat to the coup plotters, but that he had always favored a quiet coup & yet somehow got put in the outsiders' group. He didn't think they would turn on him; his objection was not that God should take over the US government, only that God somehow picked Trump instead of a true Christian.
It would be like if an ethnic Romani had joined the Nazi party because of his anti-semitism, only to later find out his family was on the list too.

I agree. He showed strength that day. IMO, he believed the vp role compelled him to be subservient.

I doubt that. I think he was more afraid of the Secret Service and chose to stay put.

He had seen enough movies to know that there would not be a good ending if he got in the car.
