Many, many gay people are super conservative. On the matter of gay rights, we shared a common goal. But, once that issue is resolved, the real partisan differences appear. My point is that you can not count on support from people based on their identity (i.e. gender, sexual identity, race, nationality, etc.) Instead, we must promote an agenda and work on getting others to understand how these solutions are better for them as well as how the propaganda artists confuse the situation and mislead people.
I suffer from this misconception myself. I can't believe it when I discover that a woman voted for Trump, or a gay person, or a Hispanic, etc. (Honestly, I don't see how anyone could support Trump, but that's another matter.) But, the reality is that an identifying trait does not imply the adoption of an ideology. By understanding this, we are better able to promote our policy goals as well as have a better grasp on who we are trying to reach and how best to address them.
I think this is an important lesson for us to learn as Democrats seeking a larger majority.
As for this Monsignor (or did he lose that title already), karma might not be mentioned in the bible, but it seems to do its job regardless! Those who are the most adamant in their defense of very divisive positions often have a hidden agenda and use extreme rhetoric as a way to mask their otherwise indefensible positions.
