(15,283 posts)Besides my admittedly anecdotal experience (fully-vaccinated clients who still were infected, minor symptoms, quarantined,) here's one of hundreds of contemporary articles that goes over this:
https://www.reuters.com/world/china/how-delta-variant-upends-assumptions-about-coronavirus-2021-07-26/
"... evidence is mounting that the Delta variant, first identified in India, is capable of infecting fully vaccinated people at a greater rate than previous versions, and concerns have been raised that they may even spread the virus..."
A consistent detail you see in all the reports is just what I'm saying: The vaccine is worth getting because it will almost always prevent death or even having to go to the hospital. That's not in dispute and is very desirable. It's the prevention of infection that's the problem.
All I'm saying is that it's too soon to ring the "all clear" bell and do away with masks. If anything, people should be using better masks than have been common in the past, such as cloth masks. You're free to do whatever you want, of course. What bothers me the most is that so many businesses are just throwing it all out the window and opening wide up which means we will be condemned to this lasting longer that it had to be.
