I NEVER believed the honor system was going to work.
I NEVER believed that the CDC did that because they thought it would incentivize people to get vaccinated. I just couldn't believe for one minute that they would be stupid enough to think that. It might influence a small few percent of the unvaccinated to get vaccinated so they didn't have to wear a mask, but most of the rest would just skip wearing a mask anyway. The CDC crumbled to political pressure and wishful thinking.
After the CDC guidance, Minnesota and most other places knew they couldn't enforce mask-wearing on the unvaccinated and so they just threw in the towel on mask-wearing for everyone. So did most stores -- two grocery stores I shop at had signs saying something like according to CDC guidance, vaccinated people need not wear masks, and that was all their signs said. In other words, just bull meaning nothing, and clearly nothing was going to be checked or enforced.
I've also been a doubter as a Johnson & Johnson vaccine recipient on any claims that I'm as safe being unmasked and mingling as I am of getting hospitalized or killed in a car crash. But that has been a never-ending mantra around here for months. Anyway I don't want one of those "mild" cases where one wonders if the difficulty in breathing is going to suddenly get seriously worse like we all read about.
I've been wearing masks all along in stores, mostly because intelligent people will have less worry and be more at ease around me (a Golden Rule kind of thing), and I don't give a f*** what the stupid ones think. And yes, I wear them to improve my chances of not getting it.
