He took immediate aim at Cawthorn, saying he was running to stop the first-term Henderson County congressman and pointing to accusations by women of inappropriate sexual advances by Cawthorn and his speech at the Washington rally directly preceding the Capitol storming.
"Im running because Western North Carolina deserves better," Remillard said. "We deserve leaders that will uphold the Constitution and make our lives better, not someone who would incite insurrection and prey on women."
The announcement makes Remillard the second declared candidate in a race expected to draw immense attention and money.
Buncombe County Commissioner Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, a nationally known LGBTQ advocate announced her candidacy March 4 and said her campaign drew $100,000 in donations in the first 24 hours.
