I was just trying to make a little joke! You know, it’s a silly thread riffing on a meme about how atheists don’t build temples and go knocking door to door and cry all the time about being persecuted for their beliefs, and then you come in and point out a very grisly bit of history showing that atheists (or one particular atheist) can, in fact, be just as brutal and bloodthirsty and intolerant as anyone else. Which doesn’t surprise me one bit, humans being the way we are.

So in response I make a joking comment, followed by the most lighthearted of emoticons ( 😂 ), and you take it as some big personal insult? And then call me a Republican to boot (which is about as big an insult as I can imagine around here). Sorry I offended you. I think the historical example you gave is quite interesting, and I have no personal connection or attachment to atheism, so no, I don’t feel morally superior to anyone on that ground, or any other, for that matter.
