25. Oh, yes. I think he was at the end of high school

when he went to work for them.

Sigh.

I know that it was never about my cooking, but still.

Here's the most important part. He started doing pizza delivery for Papa Johns after his freshman year in college. He got his degree at the University of Tulsa, a pretty decent school. And when he graduated, immediately resumed doing pizza delivery. WTF?

Several months later he moved to another part of the country and continued doing the pizza delivery. I was dismayed that he wasn't making better use of his degree, but he knew that there was no point in asking either of his parents (we'd separated by then) for more money, because we'd tell him to get a better job or a different job or a second job, because once he'd graduated college he was on his own.

He never asked us for money, happily supported himself doing pizza delivery. And it's the happily supported himself I want to emphasize. Honestly, I was every bit as proud of my pizza delivery son as I was of my son in the PhD program in astronomy.
