In reply to the discussion: Hospitals And Ambulances Are Overflowing In Oklahoma With People OD'ing On Horse De-Wormer [View all]Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Yet another day has passed, and all reports quote that one doctor, Jason McElyea, who claimed floods of ODs from taking doses meant for horses were overwhelming rural hospitals. ERs were "clogged" with ODs.
So which hospitals and how many OD's? That basic information strangely wasn't given and still isn't. He said ODers had vision loss -- try googling that to (not) find followup on this scary news. OK's biggest newspaper has a bunch of articles about or mentioning ivermectin, but nothing on this.
Below is the followup on ivermectin from Oklahoma City's KFOR-TV, which broke the doctor's sensational account. It doesn't even discuss its current headline, and the caption on the picture mentions increase in poison control calls in Nevada.
As COVID-19 cases continue to climb across the country, some Americans are searching for alternative options to protect themselves from the virus. For months, the Food and Drug Administration has warned Americans against using ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID-19.
Ivermectin and Use in Humans
Ivermectin tablets are approved by the FDA to treat people with intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, two conditions caused by parasitic worms.
Ivermectin is often used to treat or prevent parasites in animals, like horses.
