This will take some time and lots of data to get the self-amplifying mRNA into general use. My reading about the technology [link:https://www.nature.com/articles/s41434-020-00204-y#Fig1|] suggests that it is a safe and logical extension of the current mRNA vaccines, but again lots of data to confirm this will be necessary. In general, since mRNA vaccines (conventional) do not enter the nucleus of cells, they are much safer than DNA vaccines (which are pretty safe, too). The self-amplifying mRNA vaccine candidates and the trans-amplifying mRNA vaccine candidates should be just as safe as conventional mRNA vaccines and have the advantage of lower doses being necessary.

We shall see how it all works out.
