(8,096 posts)I also read there's no way out of it, to go back to plain old Medicare and I'm seething all over again. I haven't lost every marble every marble I ever had; thought I was smart enough to find my way through all this crap. And let me tell you, it's all a LOT of crap with no one you can trust to help you weed through it all. NO WAY should anyone who has made it thru to our age have to do it for yourself, your spouse, AND your danged parents. Add in there helping any kids you may also have needing help on top of that. That's a full time job right there. Forget anything else in your life you need to divert attention towards... and if you have a chronic illness on top of that, or dealing with a parent in a nursing home who has suddenly cleaned out the parent's bank account leaving no money for THEIR MedAdv account? You find yourself up to your eyeballs in insurance issues and medical issues and chronic pain issues and no one to help and everyone "helping" saying "here, sign this..." and no idea what's good, what's evil, and instead, checking dates under which something came to be.. hoping if it came before or after *Rump it was okay. THAT is NOT a good marker.
I've got chronic issues. I got scammed on my Part "c" because I was afraid of losing out on part "d" because of my chronic medical issues. Hubby's had 2 heart attacks and has blood issues. After spending a year with me, My sis and I put Mom in a memory care nursing home with dementia and aggressive and hostile attitude and behaviors right at the start of C19 lockdowns. We're in Kansas, where Repubs killed Medicaid with something called "Kancare." Utterly useless... IF you can get on it. We're still trying to get her on it. So far, nursing home has cleaned out Mom's account. Sis and I are scared we're going to end up with mom back with us and let me tell you, that will be ugly. She really is mean, aggressive, and hostile. She wants to go to the hospital where she can be waited on, and when it doesn't happen, she wants to go home and yells at everyone at the hospital til it happens. Which means, she gets sent to behavioral health (psych ward) until Medicare stops paying for it. Her heart is strong. I've always said she'll outlive me.
No way should families have to go through this year after year after year, while resources and mental facilities decline each year. Insurance companies know this and take greater and greater advantage of it year after year after year. I damn Bush the junior, under whom most of this crap came (if I remember correctly). And for sure, one person in the family should not be designated the "goto" person for all questions for all generations where all insurance is concerned! (LOL)
Sorry... This is a total pet peeve of mine. I've been in this position for too many years. First with Mom, trying to figure out hers while trying to figure out mine from work. Then, with Mom while she was fighting me while I was being taken advantage of by Aetna after my retirement. And now, that I believe hubby and I both need to change, and Mom's account is broke. Used to be you only need to worry about the IRS before you died. Now it's the damned insurance companies!!!!
