(22,555 posts)Once I called 911 to report a man trying to pull a woman into his car, which was parked right in front of the house we were living in at the time. (She was screaming for help, it was awful.)
The first thing the operator asked was what the races of the two people were. I was horrified and yelled "What difference does THAT make?" in what I'm sure was a very offended tone of voice. She patiently explained what you just said, that she was asking for the purpose of getting description of them both. I have never forgotten that.
(P.S. He did NOT succeed in forcing her into the car. I don't know if he left before the cops arrived or not, but I'm almost sure it was some kind of domestic violence related incident, and she probably did not want to press charges. I hope things worked out all right for her, but I know too much about DV/abusive relationships to take anything for granted.
