South Africa has an abysmal vaccination rate < 25%, it also had a relatively low infection rate fir Delta. It is prime territory for ANY variant. Early indications MAY point to a less lethal virus. It MAY evade some antibodies, but 100% escape is never going to happen.

It has NOT been labeled a variant of concern YET (and may never - time will tell).
