(5,175 posts)Taking hormones, especially before puberty, and gender reassignment surgery fundamentally rewires your system.
Also you can be born with XX or XY genetics but can have a mutation that makes you immune to the hormones that would make you develop the secondary sex characteristics of the sex your genetics say you have. Or your sex glands may not develop for some other reason.

Honestly, I think all sports are a bit silly and boring so not really bothered who gets to play on which sports ball team based on which bits they have but I do think that people should have the right to define their own gender and to have that be recognised and respected.
