not being part of the discussion about the date of release was something along the lines of "I was in the bathroom". Sounds like intentional effort to establish plausible deniability to me.
So here is one that is pure speculation. My dad was not very political. Never talked about candidates or issues. My parents never used racial slurs, never talked bad about another race or religion, but did inform us of certain news items, such as when the homes of African-American families were burned before the could move in near us (Castlewood development in N. St. Louis County). Anyway, he was a computer programmer (IBM considered him one of the best in the Midwest). After the failed rescue attempt he only said that he couldn't believe the military would sacrifice some of their own just to make a sitting president look bad.
I've never heard any supporting evidence, but don't doubt it either.
