I once saw a surgeon who had the awful duty to tell a roomful of family and friends that a patient had died during emergency surgery for gsw. They started screaming and attacking the doctor, who was immediately extracted from the room by a burly ward aide. It stuck with me because I had never seen anything like that.
I once had a patient in code with the family watching, and one relative ran in the room screaming for us to stop "hurting her." It was her Mom...what were we supposed to do...so sad...
