(19,841 posts)Yes it's an interesting case. Looks like Mr. Phipps "advertizing" is having its desired effect--I'm curious about it now. He certainly wants attention. Seems to be his way of "working through"--fascinating from a social psych POV. Wonder what happened.
Although I don't appreciate the inflammatory and misleading way the story was presented here by the OP--at least we're now more up on it. I don't blame DUers for being outraged at what was posted. It is hard to defend such a disturbing creation as "free speech," especially when you're unsure of motive. It's offensive for sure, but I think there's a case for the man's project being about perceived political corruption rather than racism. Of course he gets a lot of mileage out of the shock value of hanging figures. Reminds me of those people who put Jesus on the trailer hitch.
Re. The instant South-bashing that ensued--oh well. My entire family is from VA, WV and NC, so I'm used to it. It is understandable, given the tension of the times and US history. Thanks unc70 for helping to explain & deflect.
NC and VA are working very hard to try to elect Obama, not to mention other Dems. I hope this little detour into Bizarre NC (I think that's a book actually) doesn't deter DUers pulling for NC. With the spotlight on all the swing states, NC really needs to feel that "blue team" spirit from outside the state. Means a lot.
