Another aspect that concerns me is that having such a long lag between when this happened (over a year now) and no consequences for those at the top (and shamefully light ones for those who have already been processed), gives the impression that whatever it was wasn't really very serious, because, you know, if it were, then something would have already been done.

So, *if* DOJ actually ends up doing something, it will be perceived as being political or whatever, because if it really had been critical, something would have been done immediately. I honestly anticipate that kind of thinking from a whole lot of people.
