People also skim titles, and so read the OP post as follows:

devastating/poll/trump/pence

And figured since tfg would be the presumed frontrunner that it was a poll that cast him in a bad light vs Pence in some context.

Yeah that is not literally what was written, but this is how people have to read when they are bombarded by info 24x7. Details get lost.

A title less inclined to misinterpretation would read something like:

"Poll finds majority of Republicans support Pence's decisions not to intervene in electoral college results."

It's misleading to even have tfg's name in there because it was the VP's defined role to count the votes. It was purely a Pence decision and there is no need to even mention or compare w/tfg.
