"CDC continues to recommend wearing of masks in these areas by people who are not fully vaccinated."
And since there is no way to know who is fully vaccinated due to permanent mask mandates and vaccination passports still being a work in progress, it is perfectly within the bounds of science to mandate everyone wear masks in public transportation areas, of which a ski lift would be considered one.
No apologies needed. Misinformation has affected all of us. Thankfully we can always reach out to science--as embodied by our governments--for the truth.
Also we need to keep in mind that while scientific consensus is reached instantaneously, public policy could drag by several weeks. That is, this ski resort could have been running policy based on the scientific consensus as it stood several days or weeks back.
