It may not be ok as such but it is something you see quite often in real life. I’ve seen many a person take a beating for talking shit. These circumstances are a bit different though. A fifty year-old man, on national tv, responding like this to a dumb joke from a comedian is not the kind of behavior you expect to see. This is a kids on the playground or drunks in a bar kind of thing. Smith came off like an unhinged whack job who has serious emotional problems. You’re supposed to have more self control than that.

On the other hand, there’s only so much disrespect one should be expected to take. If you keep mouthing off to someone, eventually you’re going to get punched in the mouth and deserve it. I don’t think this was enough to cross that threshold but the Smiths have been the butt of jokes for a while now, perhaps this was just the last straw for him and Chris became a convenient target for that pent up frustration.

It wasn’t a good look no matter how you slice it and certainly should have been handled differently.
