3. Well that depends, and it's certainly not as simple as you frame it

This wasn’t someone saying something Will Smith didn’t like, this was someone humiliating and body shaming his wife (who has shaved her head to cover her alopecia condition) on national television, him seeing the pain she felt from the “joke”, and with her recent infidelity and his presumed need to show he could defend his wife, he lost control.

There are times to turn the other cheek and there are times when there is a call to action. You can’t just lump them all together as “someone saying something you don’t like”, because it was much more than that.

Suppose someone was ridiculing your spouse in public. Are you going to just stand there and take it? Would you defend your spouse’s honor? And is your cloak of civility masking cowardice or true pacifism? Smacking someone for bad mouthing your spouse is certainly a time honored romanticized response, especially in the movies.
