35. Cambridge, MD on Eastern Shore of Maryland

I grew up in a very small town an hour away from Cambridge and never once in my school studies during the '50's did I read anything about her (nor about Frederick Douglass who was born nearby). In the '90's a grandson asked me what I knew about her for a school report. Sadly I still didn't know that much so we took a road trip to find out more. Found a small sign on a back road that said the plantation where she was born was probably along this area. Since then though there is lots of information about this incredible woman.

If you are in the area, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center is a must see. The mural is not at the Park, but in the town of Cambridge.
